Last Rites Gallery 13th Hour Show

A big Thank You to everyone at Last Rites Gallery! I had a great time at the reception, my first visit to NYC certainly was memorable, getting stuck in hurricane Sandy and having my flight cancelled 5 times in a row is not an experience I'm likely to soon forget! The watery submersion of my airport aside, I had a great trip, and really enjoyed exploring NYC. I'm scheduled for the upcoming Last Rites 5th Anniversary show this April. So if you missed your chance on the Goat Eyed Mother piece, don't fret, my work will be hanging on the walls of Paul Booth's amazing gallery again soon!

Macabre Show at La Luz de Jesus Opens October 5th

Opening Reception: Friday, October 5th; 8-11 PM The 'Dark Mother' Series for the La Luz de Jesus 'Macabre' Show Jasmine Worth's latest collection is titled Dark Mother. In this series she's focused on the conflicted imagery of woman as both holy mother and originator of sin. Embracing the Pagan roots of the Goddess Mother image, as well as the iconography of other religions, she seeks to unify the diverse depictions of the divine mother into one entity. In these works she reunites the image of the divine mother into a whole, encompassing both aspects of the dichotomy that has torn her in to an object of both reverence and fear. Jasmine Worth crafts scenes from fairytales gone awry—swirling seamlessly between the sweet and surreal, inevitably dipping into the valley of the morbid. She studied formally at Watts Atelier as well as Studio 2nd Street in Encinitas, CA, and earned her BFA from the Laguna College of Art and Design. While she possesses the credentials, the product of her toils clearly pours from the cobwebbed corners of her mind, not the classroom. Her paintings—a cabaret of vibrant hues—are a blend of soft textures and colorful characters, juxtaposed against gloomy themes. Created in her home of San Diego, Jasmine combines dark influences and subtle-yet-serious undertones with raw artistic talent and a rarely seen creativity. Her work exudes a strong bearing of individuality, manifested through characters that speak almost vocally and give a new element of depth to an otherwise two dimensional medium. Each scene tells a story and every story is as diverse in emotion as it is in appearance. Contact the Gallery Director for availability and purchase info: (323) 666-7667

After that will be the first show of the Splendor Device female art collective "Hell Hath No Fury" at Rothick Haus in Anaheim, CA. I will also be there for that so I'm hoping to see some familiar southern California faces there. Splendor Device is the brain Child of Kelly Castillo, co-owner of the Anaheim gallery Rothick Haus. Kelly has amazing things planned for the group, mountains of creativity and thought have gone in to this project. It's been a truly inspiring experience to be a part of this creative process with a bunch of talented artists.

Mike Maxwell's LIVE FREE Podcast

Spent the afternoon being interviewed by Mike Maxwell for his Live Free podcast. Had a lot of fun talking about art, the disenfranchised, women in art, and lots of other topics I'm not fully remembering right now. Mike's podcast can be found here: http://mikemaxwellart.com/lfp and the interview I did with him should be up in a week or so. a big thanks to Mike for having me on, it was my first time being interviewed for a podcast and I couldn't have asked for a more gracious host. Last Day of GMWaT4 and New Shows on the Horizon

Hello All,
Today is the last day of Gag Me With A Toon 4. A big thank you to Steven Daily and Tomi Monstre for having me in the show. It was a blast.
I have some shows coming up in the near future:

Sacred Machine Gallery
Beyond The Sacred
May 11th, 2011

C.A.V.E. Gallery
Venice Art Walk
May 19th, 2012

Also, I will be going to Hawaii at the end of the month for 10 glorious days, so please be patient with me if you order anything from my etsy store in the interim. I will get to the orders as soon as I get back. This means I will be missing the show opening at Ltd, which I guess means they're just going to have me back so I can attend the next opening ;) And hey, it's Hawaii, who would turn that down??
Lately I've been finding myself in situations that may not be second nature to a strange, all black wearing, artsy gal (like camping in the middle of the Valley of Fire, or going beach hopping in Hawaii) but I've been in some wort of weird Gypsy-traveling phase lately and all of the experiences have been a lot of fun. I look forward to more of them.

March Madness

We are coming up on the end of my March Madness. I have been too busy to post, so this will have to make up for the last few weeks in which I've been busy painting, running to the post office, painting some more, going to show openings, getting drunk in creepy David Lynch-esque hotels with awesome people, and then painting some more.
We opened the Petals to the Metal show last Friday the 16th to lots of metal and petals.

Next up was the Gag Me With a Toon show, curated by Steven J. Daily and Tomi Monstre. The show was PACKED. A big hug and thank you to everyone involved, it was a treat to show with so many amazing artists.

Show merch is available here: http://www.welovefine.com/nby.php?d=13 and the original art is available here: http://www.wwagallery.com/SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=7&cat=1881&show=200&page=1 grab it while you can!
This weekend we will be opening the Freaks of Nature show at junc Boutique & Gallery. Some of the art has already come in, and it sure is freaky!! This one is sure to delight (or horrify, depending on your proclivity)

Come dressed in your finest Carnivale Side-Show Freak attire and join us for a night of booze and art!

The Passion of Evil-Lyn

Sneak preview of the completed version of one of my pieces for Gag Me With A Toon 4, "The Passion of Evil-Lyn" all finished and ready to be framed and shipped out to GMWAT!
I'll be posting more about that show, along with the unveiling of my Flintstones painting, after this weekend's opening of LALUZAPALOOZA!!

Super excited for all these shows coming up, I plan to be at each of the openings, so I hope you can make it out! La Luz is going to be a blast, as always, and promises to be a packed night full of booze and brilliant art. Next up is the botanical themed art show "Petals To The Metal" at Vishuddha Creatives in South Park, San Diego. If you went to the Pirate show opening here a couple of months ago, you know you're in for a fun night. The flyer for this one rocks (am I allowed to say that if I designed it?? oh well, I'm saying it) and I'll be posting it here shortly. The next night will be the opening of Gag Me With a Toon vol.4, at WWA Gallery in Culver City. So super excited about this one, can't wait to see how all of these amazing artists will reimagine the saturday morning cartoons that are so near and dear to my heart. And finally at the end of the month, rounding out all of the March Madness, is the "Freaks of Nature" show at junc boutique and gallery, curated by yours truly, and featuring our artist roster of usual suspects.

LaLuzAPalooza - Sold Out

A big Thank You to my collectors for making this a Sold Out show for me. I hope I will be seeing lots of you at the show opening this Friday. La Luz always throws some of the best show openings, and I'm sure this one will be no different!
March is going to be a busy month, with shows opening March 2nd, 16th, 17th, and 24th. More info and details on those shows to come!
After that, I will be working on something big for October...more info soon....

La Luz De Jesus Gallery proudly rebrands our annual juried group exhibition, LALUZAPALOOZA. This gigantic, no-theme show features works from some of the freshest and most relevant artists working today. Over 9,000 submissions from commercial illustrators, graphic designers, tattooists, scenics, students, animators and working gallery artists had to be sorted-through, and we've finally narrowed it down to 125 or so artists. The official piece count is awaiting verification, but you can bet that it will be another (tastefully) jam-packed, salon-style exhibition. There are some familiar names from our ever-growing roster of feature artists, but an overwhelming percentage of the work comes from a brand new batch of undiscovered, emerging talent.

Please join us as we continue to support the latest and most original efforts from the nation's alternative art scene.

Hello my name is Jasmine, and I like to do drawerings......

Hello Cheeky Monkies!
Lately I've been in a drawing mood, which is kind of rare for me. I'm mostly in the 'rough sketch then paint it' camp, not spending too much time rendering out any particular drawings, but I've decided to do a couple of pieces for upcoming art shows as drawings only. So..
Do you want to see a progress shot of my drawering for the Gag Me With a Toon 4 show? Do you, do you? You do? Here it is!

It's called "The Passion of Evil-Lyn"
Apparently I remind some of my friends of Evil-Lyn, because after I showed this drawering to some of them, one of them sent me this:

hmmm, I guess there are way worse things you could remind people of...
For those of you who don't remember who Evil-Lyn is, "she is a villain from He-Man, she is Skeletor's second-in-command, although her loyalty is questionable. She is amongst the most intellectual & scheming of the He-Man show's villains."
Pretty cool lady all around. And she can sing!

Laluzapalooza - March 2nd

Laluzapalooza -Vol. XV of the Greatest Group Show on Earth- is nearly upon us, one of my favoristist most funnest shows of the year. Many of you are probably familiar with the 'Everything But The Kitschen Sync' annual shows that La Luz throws, well this is one in the same only with a schnazzy new name.
There will be, as always, an amazing array of art, booze, and an endless amount of interesting eccentric inebriated people to mingle with. Should make for a fun Friday night!!
So come out and throw back a couple beers (or glasses of wine) with us!

An Artists Portrait Series @ eloS

Thanks to everyone who came out for An Artists Portrait Series at eloS on Friday night. So many of you came out, honestly I think I might just have the best friends in the world. We had so much fun, and art, and shoes, and wine. Yes, lots of wine. Afterwards, Rich took took us out to Ebisu Sushi in Hillcrest, if you haven't been there check it out, it's amazing. One of the best places in San Diego for sushi. We had so much fun, and edamame, and sushi, and saki. Yes, lots of saki. We finished up the night at Hamiltons, where we again had lots of fun, and beer. Not as much beer. I really had to slow down at this point. I just can't keep up with the Cooker. I spent the vast majority of the next day recovering in bed. But it was worth it. So worth it. Rich and Kristen and Lisa and Paul are wonderful, and I am so happy to have been a part of their project.

LA Affordable Art Fair

Hello All,
Terribly sorry for the tardy update. I've been battling a flu that just does not want to leave me alone. Every time I think I've finally rid myself of its germy self, and begin to go about my normal business, it comes back with a vengeance to knock me on my butt. I am flattered that this little bug simply does not want to let go of me, but enough is enough. My door step has turned in to the local canned soup/kombucha/holistic medicine/sudafed drop-off spot, and though I am touched by how many thoughtful and caring friends I have, I am looking forward to getting back on my feet and resuming my life. In the mean time I am spending more time in bed than I would like to admit, so please feel free to send along any amusing (or informative) videos, pics, and book recommendations that may keep me entertained during my internment.

Coming up in March is LaLuzapalooza Show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery. The pieces, as seen above, are titled "Trifecta" oil, 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches each (there are three of them, and though I would ultimately like to see them all go to a home together, they are being sold separately) - for purchase inquires please contact Matt at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

Also coming in March is the "Gag Me With A Toon" Group Art Show in LA, curated by the wonderfully talented Steven J. Daily.

After that I will be showing in and curating the "Freaks of Nature" Group Art Show at Junc in San Diego, more details on those shows to follow.

This is a little something I carved/inked into a table at a bar, over a beer with my good friend James. If anyone can locate it you'll get a wink and a hug and a secret handshake from me... ;)
