Thanks to everyone who came out for An Artists Portrait Series at eloS on Friday night. So many of you came out, honestly I think I might just have the best friends in the world. We had so much fun, and art, and shoes, and wine. Yes, lots of wine. Afterwards, Rich took took us out to Ebisu Sushi in Hillcrest, if you haven't been there check it out, it's amazing. One of the best places in San Diego for sushi. We had so much fun, and edamame, and sushi, and saki. Yes, lots of saki. We finished up the night at Hamiltons, where we again had lots of fun, and beer. Not as much beer. I really had to slow down at this point. I just can't keep up with the Cooker. I spent the vast majority of the next day recovering in bed. But it was worth it. So worth it. Rich and Kristen and Lisa and Paul are wonderful, and I am so happy to have been a part of their project.

Each artist's portrait will be shown alongside works by each of the artists.

From Rich Cook: "I had the pleasure of shooting portraits of each artist and my photos will be displayed next to a piece from each one of them. I am honored to be sharing the walls with some of my favorite, oh-so-extremely talented local artist friends. Each shoot was so different and fun and full of adventures. I have been wanting to do a project like this for a while and the timing couldn't be better. This year is off to a great start with a new website, new blog and new focus on my photography.

This is going to be a very special and fun night. eloS is a wonderful shoe store with great owners (Lisa and Paul) who are really involved in the community. I would love nothing more than to see all my friends come out and give some support. We will be having refreshments, and as a side note, Blind Lady Ale House is right next door so you can always pop in there for a pint as well! Photography, art, shoes, beer, something for everyone! I seriously had no idea, and my friend Kevin Peterson (who is s super awesome artist) texted me out of the blue last night to inform me that he just saw my art on Anthony Bourdain's show. No Freakin Way! So flattered.

LA Affordable Art Fair

Hello All,
Terribly sorry for the tardy update. I've been battling a flu that just does not want to leave me alone. Every time I think I've finally rid myself of its germy self, and begin to go about my normal business, it comes back with a vengeance to knock me on my butt. I am flattered that this little bug simply does not want to let go of me, but enough is enough. My door step has turned in to the local canned soup/kombucha/holistic medicine/sudafed drop-off spot, and though I am touched by how many thoughtful and caring friends I have, I am looking forward to getting back on my feet and resuming my life. In the mean time I am spending more time in bed than I would like to admit, so please feel free to send along any amusing (or informative) videos, pics, and book recommendations that may keep me entertained during my internment.

House Heads and Blood Sucking Santas

This morning was spent painting tiny houses on top of people's heads. Also put the finishing touches on my Blood Sucking Santa piece for the "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" creepy Santa show coming up at Junc Dec.3rd.
It's been a super busy couple of months for me, so I'm looking forward to relaxing a little after my shows at La Luz and C.A.V.E.
I have some group shows in the works for this upcoming year, there should be a lot of fun ones...stay tuned...

"Together Forever" Show recap and pics

A huge Thank You to everyone who made it out for the Together Forever show opening at La Luz De Jesus. I had lots and lots of fun, I met so many great people, and I sure did sell a lot of work. There are still a couple of pieces available I think, so get on em if you want em.
David and I drove up for the show right smack in the middle of rush hour, which shall henceforth be known as "mistake number one", it took us roughly 3.5 hours to make the (normally) 2 hour drive to Hollywood. We then ate at one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to (I have since been told to never ever eat at any restaurant in LA that has the word "Vegan" in the name)so that can henceforth be known as "mistake number two". Attempting to park on Hollywood blvd after 8pm is apparently a near impossible feat, "mistake number three". But all the learning experiences aside, the show itself more than made up for it. I was able to meet and chat with a few artists whose work I admire, was able to catch up with some people I haven't seen in a long time, and I had the pleasure of meeting a few people who own pieces of my work. A big thanks to my BFFs Paige and Michelle for braving the SD to LA commute on a Friday to support my show. Here are a few pics from the night:

Jasmine Worth's latest collection is titled Together Forever. In this series she's focused on the obvious (and sometimes not so obvious) interconnectedness of people; the ways our associations shape our lives, whether beneficial or parasitic, enriching and fulfilling or codependent and detrimental. In many ways we are the sum of those we encounter. Sometimes these encounters lead to lifelong bonds, and sometimes the briefest connection can have surprisingly lasting effects. It is these interconnected relationships and intertwining of lives that pair the focus in Together Forever –works exploring the ways in which others shape who we are.

Jasmine Worth crafts scenes from fairytales gone awry—swirling seamlessly between the sweet and surreal, inevitably dipping into the valley of the morbid. She studied formally at Watts Atelier as well as Studio 2nd Street in Encinitas, CA, and earned her BFA from the Laguna College of Art and Design. While she possesses the credentials, the product of her toils clearly pours from the cobwebbed corners of her mind, not the classroom. Her paintings—a cabaret of vibrant hues—are a blend of soft textures and colorful characters, juxtaposed against gloomy themes. Created in her home of San Diego, Jasmine combines dark influences and subtle-yet-serious undertones with raw artistic talent and a rarely seen creativity. Her work exudes a strong bearing of individuality, manifested through characters that speak almost vocally and give a new element of depth to an otherwise two dimensional medium. Each scene tells a story and every story is as diverse in emotion as it is in appearance

Each artist participating in the Artists Help Japan project was given the assignment to create an “ema”. Ema are traditional small Japanese wooden tablets left at shrines with an image on one side, and a wish or a prayer on the other. ***New News: Both of my paintings, "Plum Mother" and "Birdfoot" sold at the show!!***
I had a great time at the "Crooked Comfort" Show opening at the new C.A.V.E. Gallery location in Venice Beach! My piece "Birdfoot" sold to a wonderful local collector. It was a little bit of a drive, but well worth it for such a cool gallery and fun people! Everyone at C.A.V.E. was wonderful and friendly, and the opening was lots of fun! There was live painting by CODAK, and many of the artists were in attendance. Please join us for the Junc Boutique & Gallery group show "Release the Bats!" an art show inspired by Dracula's children of the night. 10% of the proceeds from the Gallery cut of all art sales will go to help bat conservation efforts. White snout syndrome is currently wiping out huge populations of bats, and as of yet has no known cure.
Opening night will be October 2nd, 2010, 6 – 10pm, during the South Park Walk-about (for more info on the walk-about, please visit: http://southparkscene.com/whats_happening.html)
"White nose syndrome is a condition associated with the deaths of more than a million bats in the Northeastern United States.[40] The disease is named after a white fungus found growing on the muzzles, ears, and wings of some afflicted bats, but it is not known if the fungus is the primary cause of the disease or is merely an opportunistic infection.[41][41] At least six species of hibernating bats are affected, including the endangered Indiana bat.[42] Because the affected species have a long lifespan and a low birth rate of only about one offspring per year, it is not expected that populations will recover quickly."
"...What's bad for bats is often bad for people, too. As a top predator of flying insects, bats regulate the population size of everything from gnats, flies and mosquitoes to costly agricultural pests, and they play key ecological and economic roles throughout the United States — making a batless Halloween even scarier than one swarming with them.

Exquisite Corpse Show in Sacramento

Hi All,
The Exquisite Corpse show will be taking place soon at Archival Framing in Sacramento, CA. This show is dedicated to Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, and is sure to feature some amazing art!
Each piece will be comprised of three separate pieces done by three different artists. This is called an "exquisite corpse" and dates back to a Victorian era parlour game.

"Among Surrealist techniques exploiting the mystique of accident was a kind of collective collage of words or images called the cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse). Based on an old parlor game, it was played by several people, each of whom would write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next player for his contribution."

"On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is ancestor worship, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths. Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mache form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors. Elaborate meals would be served with empty seats for each of the deceased in the family treating the deceased as if they are still living. Ancestor worship is what distinguishes Qingming Festival from Ghost Festival because the latter includes paying respects to all deceased, including the same and younger generations, while the former only includes older generations. Other festivities may include, buying and releasing miniature paper boats and lanterns on water, which signifies giving directions to the lost ghosts and spirits of the ancestors and other deities."

The 8x10s are Coming!!!

I am very excited to announce that my etsy shop will soon have 8x10 prints available.
I've had a few requests for these, so I am looking forward to making them available. They should be here some time this week!
So far, the prints I will have available in 8x10 are "Mother", "Detached", "Without Light", "Suspended", and "Black Rust." If you are interested in a different piece in 8x10, just ask :D
Also, "Two Sisters" will now be available in the larger, square size of 5x5, which is the original format it was painted in.
On a personal note, David and I just went to see Avatar for the 3rd time, and we are planning to see it a 4th. If you haven't seen Avatar yet, go see it!! It's amazing!

Hi All,

I just finished my new painting for the "Red Light Exhibit" Group show in Detroit. The new painting is entitled "Black Rust". I will not be able to attend the show opening, but if you live in or near Detroit, please check out the "Dirty Show" Red Light Exhibit and take lots of pictures for me! Prints of "Black Rust" along with some new fun and awesomeness are available now in my etsy store. :)

P.S. It's SO windy here in San Diego that a HUGE 15ft tall fruit tree in my yard just blew over! That tree has been there since I was a little girl... :(
